Lampi beach

This beach is one of the most remote on the island and certainly has a great charm. It is covered with pebbles and shells and for this reason the sea has a very intense green-blue color. There is a small tavern that also offers sun loungers. It’s not easy to get there but it’s certainly worth it. At times the sea can be a little rough due to the beach’s exposure to the prevailing wind.

Livadi kalogiron (Octopus Beach)

If you are looking for a moment of absolute peace, this is the place for you. A not very large bay with a pebble beach, trees for shelter from the sun and few, very few people. It is not uncommon to be alone or with one or two other people. You will find a small fishing pier on the right, a monastery behind it on the north side. Along the short descent that leads to the sea, a very cool and characteristic tent-cave has been carved out of the rock where some guys offer good food. Recommended!

The water is transparent and clear, the sea has a sparkling blue color with a seabed that drops quite quickly. One part is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, while one area is completely free. The peculiarity of the beach is that you can swim from two different sides of the coast thanks to its position right on the tip, between one coast and the other.

Monastery of St. John

The Monastery of St. John Theologos is an obligatory stop if you are on holiday on the island of Patmos. For all of Christianity, the Monastery is considered one of the most important pilgrimages and is recognized by UNESCO as one of the symbolic monuments of Christianity. A tour is a must, first of all for the artistic and cultural importance of the site and then also because the view enjoyed from the promontory is fantastic.

The Cave of the Apocalypse

The Cave of the Apocalypse, between the villages of Skala and Chora, owes its name to the fact that right here the apostle John heard the voice of God from a triple crack formed in the rock, which symbolized the Holy Trinity and had visions which led him to write the last book of the Bible, the Apocalypse. This mystical site has brought the island of Patmos the title of “Jerusalem of the Mediterranean”.

Chora

This small traditional town has been built around the monastery of Saint John the Theologian. It is one of the most beautiful and well preserved medieval towns found in the Aegean. The hous- es, built next to each other, have their windows placed high and leave room for narrow, maze- like paved alleys where you will find dozens of 15th-17th century churches, built with stone from Petrokopio (meaning stone quarry) and Manola- kas. The roofs are made with timber from cy- press trees and alternating layers of astivi (a kind of shrub endemic to Patmos), seaweed, and mud.
